York Land Trust’s Stewardship staff and a team of dedicated volunteers have been hard at work this summer improving and upgrading YLT’s headquarters preserve, Near Point Preserve. Their goal is to make Near Point Preserve’s infrastructure and signage more accessible to all visitors regardless of their experience level in the outdoors. These improvements were funded by the L.L.Bean Maine Land Trust Grant Program and will continue through the rest of the year.
One of the first changes that staff and volunteers implemented was the installation of a brand-new trailhead kiosk! This cedar kiosk sports YLT’s new logo and branding, a simplified map with easy-to-read icons, and a built-in bench. Preserve visitors can also scan a QR code to view the kiosk information and other trail resources in Spanish.
Other preserve improvements will include a slightly rerouted trail, trail leveling and regrading, improved boardwalks, and an additional accessible picnic bench placed at one of Near Point Preserve’s lookout points. New trail maps are available at the kiosk, as are membership materials. Please come by to say hello to York Land Trust staff and enjoy the wonderfully varied habitat leading down to the York River!
