Natural History

A densely wooded path leads to a salt marsh that offers habitat for blue herons, night herons, white egrets and the rare saltmarsh sharp-tailed sparrow. Bobcat, river otters, and fox have also been spotted along the brook, which is a major tributary of the York River. The surrounding meadows provide forage for a variety of songbirds that nest on the property.

Cultural History

We acknowledge that our preserves sit on Abenaki lands. We extend our sincere gratitude and respect to these original caretakers of this land, and to all other Wabanaki people who have a relationship with this land.

Amenities and Trails

The York Land Trust Headquarters features ample parking, two lookout points with benches, and interpretative signage explaining our rationale for gardening with native plants and our use of a bio-swale to manage our stormwater runoff.
